A long time ago I added code to login that would create an encrypted
entry to place in the password file after the user was Kerberos
authenticated. It was done to solve exactly this problem. I just
logged into a 5.5T workstation, and this worked fine (it inserted the
following line in /etc/passwd:
rfrench:G2ILEvWQaepq.:15864:101:Robert S. French,Rob,NW61-432M,4941293,59679:/mit/rfrench:/bin/csh
) Perhaps this doesn't work for you because you entered your password
entry by hand?
