A brief synopsis of the problem:
All left-mouse-clicks activate the "Delete" button

Please describe the problem in detail (mention any necessary files or
commands that may be involved, on which machine the bug happened, and what
the program did that was wrong):
I had been using the delete button when I discovered that a left-mouse-click
anywhere in the XMH window (even with the meta key) activated the "Delete"
button. If I held the left mouse button down, the "delete" key would
highlight. If I then moved the mouse pointer through the "Delete" key, it
would return to normal and releasing the button would have no effect.
If I moved out of the XMH window, the left-mouse-button would not highlight
text in an xterm window.
The stae lasted ~ 3 minutes and then returned to normal.
