The bug that you have run into with "zip" is a bug with the X server.
Technically, if the X server crashes, as it has, it is a bug with the
server, as you probably already know.

This bug is caused by bad code generation (by gcc 1.34) of the routine
miGetArcPts(), more specifically, one of the rounding routines is
lacking one assembly instruction.  This problem will be fixed in the
January release, by compiling the X server with the next version of gcc.
