No matter what type of machine I log onto, no matter where (even
PVAXes), something extremely disturbing and weird happens to me:
Sometimes while I'm in my session initialization and then sometimes
afterwards, The computer just blanks out, and literally seconds later,
the toehold prompt comes up: "Hit any key to start." This has
happened every time since Thursday October 5. The computer will NEVER
let me log on. I'm doing this from a session without starting up X
(control-p login), and only using .startup.tty.
I think it might have something to do with my startup files
(dotfiles), but I can't be sure. At first I thought it was because I
used too much memory, but then even PVAXes just kill me completely (if
that's the word).
I'll send in my .startup.X file, but I can summarize what it does:
i skip the initial xterm in my .environment
5 xterms open up and one emacs (all with geometry, names, and
reversevideo)
Then xload, xclock, dclock, and xscreensaver start up.
I can login under the system files fine.
I really need help with this one, I've got to work at olc this weeknd
and a few other things academically related. Somehow, I've gotta
solve this.
