In-Reply-To: Franklyn A Turbak's message of Wed, 4 Oct 89 15:50:04 -0400,

I apologize for the problems with the ATHENA.README file; I don't yet
know how that happened.

As that file was supposed to outline, /mit/scheme/etc is supposed to
be the directory to look in for the emacs-lisp files; I have renamed
"dist" to "dist.old" for now to avoid the confusion.

Unfortunately, I don't remember enough scheme to easily duplicate the
problems you found; my one test case (apply "length" to a recursive
pair) didn't seem to get interrupted no matter which elisp files I was
trying it with -- the dist.old files, the etc files, or the 6.821
version. I've forwarded your message to the scheme maintainers for
Athena; we should hear back from them within a day or so.

As for announcing the change, I must accept blame there. This new
version was supposed to be put out during the summer, but it was never
given to me until just recently. In rushing to get it available ASAP,
I didn't think to notify the people who are supposed to notify faculty
and TAs. I will describe the situation to them so that they can
notify other faculty who may be using scheme in their courses.

I apologize for the problems caused you, and will try to get them
fixed as soon as possible.
