Yesterday (5/4) at around midnight or so, I had a problem that I have been
so far unable to reproduce. I did something (which if I could duplicate,
I would know what it was) that caused to be lose my kerberos tickets AND
the ability to expand wildcards. I noticed this when I tried to copy something
to my home directory and ended up with a file called ~. echo * would return *.
There was no attempt to expand. Restoring my tickets and nfs mappings did
not seem to solve the problem. I ended up using the old log out and back in
again trick. Later on in the evening, the same problem occured again.
Since I can't be too specific as to what caused the problem, I will give the
information that I do have:
I was logged into a 5.5T vax in 4-035 and had telnetted to soup, a 6.0
workstation. I had not been on long enough for my tickets to expire. I
had another person's locker attached so that I could copy files. He did
a temporary chmod 755 to a directory. I made that my working directory.
He then did a chmod 750; I did a pwd and got a "can't get stat" error.
I haven't been able to recreate that situation (since I don't have the
other user's password), but could not duplicate the filename expansion
problem creating the analogous situation in my own locker...
If someone doesn't figure this one out, I will send more information as I
have it. Am I sending this report to too many people?
