Are you sure this is whois that is losing? I've occasionally seen tty
modes get set such that ^C and such don't work; you have to run
'reset' to fix it (usually from another terminal, by the time you
notice the problem). I don't know any more about the problem than
that; I use lineedit mode, so I only notice when I try to use ^C and
it fails.
I just tried "whois hm19", and did successfully interrupt it after it
displayed the information.
