Dear Bugs:
I believe the new dotfile construction defeats a current functional
requirement of the system, namely, dialing in to one's private workstation
from a terminal or PC, from home or presumably elsewhere. This function is
and will be increasingly important for faculty with workstations in their
offices, as it is for me.
The problem is that the workstation will typically be in a de-activated
state and must be activated right away in the dial-in process. There's no
clear place in the dot files -- either xsession or tty -- to detect the status
and do the activation (or so I believe).
We need a fix or instructions to do this right away.
