Hello!
Under 6.2A I used to run 5 xterms, emacs, xload, xclock, zwgc, a
wm, and xdsc with little problem. A typical load would be .5-1.5 on an
RT. Now under 6.3B loads of 3 are typical running 2 xterms, emacs,
zwgc, a wm, and xdsc. I changed my wm back to uwm, and didn't notice an
imporovement, so I doubt it's mwm. I also seem to run out of memory
much sooner, under 6.3B.
One thought I had was that perhaps xlogin had problems creating
children. Since xsession is a child of xlogin, and all my process are
children of xsession (unless they do otherwise), I thought that if
xlogin didn't create that first child nicely, it could slow down
everything. This is pure speculation.
I can't come up with a solid reason why things are slower, but I
do want to report that they definitely *are*. I used to think it was
loaded NFS testers packs in E40 and a slow VAX II, but since it's the
same way in the consulting office on all machines, I think otherwise.
Thanks for any help you can give.
