Very frequently, I have had the named hang in the middle of a login session.
This is noted by finger @machine returns machine not known. The simple remedy
is to kill the named and restart it. What happened yeterday, was unusual. I
logged in, was informed that I had 5 messages, and attempted to incorporate
my mail. Inc told me I had no mail. I dicovered that the named had indead hung my mail. Inc told me I had no mail. I dicovered that the named had indead hung
(as described above). Killing named and restarting fixed the problem. It seems
to me that inc should have stated something like "ATHENA-PO-1 - host not known"
instead of telling me that there was no mail waiting.
This whole message may be moot as I assume the named bugs have been fixed for
6.0 and this shouldn;t happend.
