You are correct. There is a bug in the lpr printing library
used by Firefox on our Linux systems such that the request is
not spooled until the browser is closed. We will try to fix
this soon; until then, I am afraid the only other workaround
is to use "Print to File" (and then use lpr from the command
line). Please note also that printing from Firefox on Solaris
(Sun) machines does not have this bug.

Firefox uses the lpr command to print, so you can make use of
the PRINTER and LPROPT environment variables. You can also
adjust the command line in Firefox's print dialog. (You can
use lpr's "-h" option to suppress the header page).
