There are several problems with firefox's handling of helper applications, including that it normalizes any specified application path by resolving symlinks; this breaks the wrapper script used in the ooffice and soffice lockers (and others). This is a known firefox bug. We will address this in the next patch release, by configuring ooffice as the default application for Office documents, so that the user will not have to specify an application path. Unfortunately, a user who wants to specify a different application (e.g. soffice) will still encounter a problem; we will likely have to wait for an upstream fix to address this. > [The soffice wrapper gives the additonal text: > "Cannot find text message file /mit/soffice/Athena/messages/avail8.0"] This is probably caused by the soffice locker not being attached. > I'm not sure whether there is a workaround in Firefox. One workaround would be to edit the path setting in mimeTypes.rdf (when firefox is not running), in the user's firefox profile directory, but that is probably not something we want to recommend to the typical user. (And I believe that there will only be a setting in this file if the user chooses to make the handler action automatic). Otherwise, until we deploy the configuration change mentioned above, the only alternative is to save the file to disk, and then run the application by hand. Thanks for reporting this. Bob
