What were you trying to do?
access the cd-rom drive via nautilus, by double-clicking on the "my
     computer" equivalent icon.
What's wrong:
There's no cd-rom drive icon to click, no desktop icon, and no way
       to make it appear.
The only way to access it is to su, then manually mount it, then it
shows up on the desktop as well.
What should have happened:
There should have been an icon. Double-clicking it should have automounted
the drive and opened a nautilus window at the directory.
Please describe any relevant documentation references:
Not sure if this happens prior to 9.4. Only seems to occur when the CD
drive is also a CD-R. Probably nautilus is doing something excessively
clever since it has the built-in cd burner.
User dougjq in the OLC queue is having the same problem.
