What were you trying to do?
What's wrong:
What should have happened:
I'm using one of the IBM ThnkCentre's, m37-318-2, and I'm failing to get
the CD Audio to play into my headphones.
I inserted the CD into the drive, and then started gnome-cd (Menu -> Audio
-> CD Players -> Gnome-cd (Linux) ).
The CD information was correctly retrieved from where ever the
information gets retrieved from, and the player indicated that it was
beginning to play the first song.
I had my headphones plugged into the headphone jack on the front, but
heard nothing. I tried the audio out (and audio in, for good measure) on
the back, as well, to no avail.
I started Gnome-volume-control (Menu -> Audio -> Volume ->
Gnome-volume-control (Linux) ), and put all the sliders all the way up,
un-muted everything, and tried again with the different jacks. Still
nothing.
I did manage to get the little noises (like from clicking on a button) to
come on, both from the internal speaker, and through the headphones, but
the CD never played. I enabled those noises via Menu -> Settings ->
Gnome Control Center -> Sound -> General -> Enable sound server startup ->
Sounds for events.
I repeated the process with xmms, with the same results (CD begins playing
in the program, computer noises work, no CD audio).
