What were you trying to do?
Open a file whose name has a space in it from the command line with:

gnumeric EC\ Summer\ Assignments.xls &
  -- or --
gnumeric "EC Summer Assignments.xls" &

What's wrong:
gnumeric attempts to open "Assignments.xls" and fails to open the
correct file.

What should have happened:
gnumeric should have opened the file I requested.

Please describe any relevant documentation references:
This works fine on a Debian machine I have with gnumeric installed.
