Well, this is just weird. Today it's working OK. It was only on the
250, and only when writing to the / disk. I tested /tmp and /usr/tmp
and got the same behaviour, but writing to AFS or another disk mounted
was OK. I noticed because a script which wrote a datafile to /tmp
failed, and I worked with that to narrow down where it failed to
produce the script I sent. That script failed at midnight, so it was
broken for several hours at least.
Ah, there had been problems with / becoming full, though there was
space available when I ran the tests, and df -h was reporting space
free. This may be a filesystem error rather than a perl problem.
Nevermind, unless it happens again.
Thanks,
Craig
