xterm scrolling

I'm running 6.3A on a VS2.
In an xterm, I did a long listing, then used a scrollbar to back up
and look at part of it again. Then I decided that I needed to see all
of it at once, so I grew the xterm from 80x24 to 80x56 characters.
When I try to type into this xterm now, it does a "scroll to bottom on
any input", which puts the line I'm typing on 24 lines from the top,
not at the bottom of the now 56 line high window.
Turning off "scroll to bottom on any input" temporarily fixed the
problem.
