System name: red-herring.mit.edu
Type and version:	i686 9.2.27 (with mkserv)
Display type: nVidia Corporation NV5 [RIVA TNT2/TNT2 Pro] (rev 15)

Shell: /bin/athena/bash
Window manager: ctwm

Neither as myself nor as a test account, on linux or sun, does mathematica
not complain about fonts. I get along with the splash screen:

"The Mathematica fonts are not properly installed in your system.
Without these fonts, typeset mathematical expressions cannot be displayed
properly."

On my long running session on red-herring, I seem to have ended up with
a few more fonts, and I get:

"Unable to find font with family Mathematica1, weight Plain, slant Plain,
and size 12. Substituting Courier."

(The notebook file I'm trying to look at still has stuff that doesn't
display, but *does* look fine if I print it to postscript and look
at that.)

The wrapper script seems to be doing:
  xset +fp /mit/math/current/distrib/SystemFiles/Fonts/Type1
  xset +fp /mit/math/current/distrib/SystemFiles/Fonts/BDF
either of which generates:
xset: bad font path element (#63), possible causes are:
Directory does not exist or has wrong permissions
      Directory missing fonts.dir
Incorrect font server address or syntax
