On linux, /var/preserve is chmod 0755 and is owned by root, thus
preventing regular users from saving files there. This was verified on
two other linux machines. On Solaris, /var/preserve is chmod 1777,
which allows users to save files there. /etc/athena/clean_tmp_areas
seems to imply that /var/preserve can be used for the storage of files
up to 3 days. If so, we should make /var/preserve on linux mode 1777 to
allow users to do this.
