A lot of GNOME software is designed with the assumption that you won't
share your home directory across multiple machines. Presumably when
first configured the keyboard layout switcher, it wrote out your current
keyboard mappings to a file and proceeded to reuse those mappings when
you logged in on a Sun.
I recommend removing the keyboard layout switcher from your panel;
hopefully, that should solve the problem.
(I will look into making the keyboard switcher work better with shared
home directories, but I can't promise anything.)
