Athena updates fail to update the SMP kernel

When Athena updates, it is not upgrading the SMP kernel when it is
installed.
A user reported this to Athena Consulting, and I can confirm that it is
the case on my personal machine. This also happened on a SIPB machine
(quiche-lorraine.mit.edu).
