I'm hoping ghudson replies to this quickly. He's the one who knows
the most about this class of problems.
I've seen the problem of GNOME menu re-configured as thin strip at top.
Alas, I've forgotten the incantation to clean up the corruption
in one's GNOME configs to fix that.
Furthermore, this problem was fixed in like 9.2.10, and this is the
first report we've seen of a re-occurrance. DANG!
