I'm sending this note to everyone who has used Evolution and reported
bugs on it during the 9.2 testing cycle. This is to check in on the
status of those bug reports and to say thank you for being
conscientious users.
Here is a list of bug reports which weren't known to already be fixed
by in the 9.2.15 patch release or earlier:
vchudnov@mit.edu:
(A) bugs [23549] Address pulldown grabs focus and won't let go
(B) bugs [23550] Multi-page contacts list doesn't print
(C) bugs [23592] Alarms set in calendar don't activate
(D) testers [5655] Request for spell-checking support
(E) testers [5655] vfolders don't scan Sent folder easily (Evo 1.2)
(F) testers [5666] Calendar pane sizes sometimes initially screwed up
(G) testers [5667] Fiddling around in calendar yields crash
asedeno@mit.edu, skendig@mit.edu:
(H) bugs [23654] Turning on SSL causes repeated seg fault
bugs [23689] Turning on SSL causes repeated seg fault
wdc@mit.edu:
(I) testers [5658] Evolution crash on startup, but only sometimes
(J) Evolution leaves processes behind
jfoster@mit.edu:
(K) bugs [23208] Evolution hangs for long periods of time
In the 9.2.16 patch release, which is currently in the dev cell, I've
upgraded Evolution from 1.4.3 to 1.4.4. I've also added the
gnome-spell package, fixing (D). Based on Ximian's ChangeLog
(<http://developer.ximian.com/projects/evolution/release_notes/1.4.4.html>),
I am hopeful that (A), (B), and (G) may be fixed in this version, and
perhaps some other of those bugs as well. Victor, if you could try to
reproduce (A), (B), (C), (E), and (G) on a 9.2.16 machine when you get
the chance, I'd appreciate it.
Unfortunately, I have verified that (H), the SSL crash, is still
present and easily reproduced. I'm hopeful that it will be
straightforward to fix once I get a few hours to devote to it.
Bill, please let me know if you see random crashes with the new
version. I spent several days trying to get Evolution to run properly
under valgrind (a memory debugger which is normally quite excellent)
but am stymied so far. (J) is not fixed yet, but it's pretty harmless
now that we use a different ORBit session directory for each login
session.
Fortunately for my sanity, I have received no reports of (K) from any
users other than Jean, but I will continue to look into it as time
allows.
Thanks again.
