It's not brain damage; it's an admission of humility on their part.
They're not sure that the servers don't have long-term resource leaks,
so they restart them once a week, at a time when most rational people
are asleep, just to make sure.

The best way to avoid the problem is to be asleep at 4AM on sundays; I
hope that's not too difficult (I'm sure the medical center could
arrange for sleeping pills or other such things if it's a case of
insomnia).

How long did you wait before giving up and rebooting?
