Hi Michael,
Thank you for reporting the MATLAB bugs you found.
We've been able to reproduce the second problem you mentioned (the one about File/Page Setup) on Linux machines and we'll report the bug to the MathWorks. By the way, are you using a Linux workstation? You might try a Sun workstation to see if the problem happens there as well.
The edit windows is normal for me when it opens...
Unfortunately, the Java interface to MATLAB is known to be quite buggy on Unix/Linux so there is not much we can do at this point. Again, you can experiment with different platforms to see if the problem persists. A partial workaround to the "edit" windows problem is to launch MATLAB as:
matlab -nojvm
This way, when invoking "edit", MATLAB will launch emacs instead of the MATLAB Java editor.
