OLC had to cope with firewalled machines in the 6.111 lab, on campus.
Many users got told something to the effect of "yes, it's broken by
your firewall; go complain to the system administrator for the lab,
and in the meantime, use something not-broken, like the dialups."
The OLC software itself will have a lot of trouble tracking the user,
if the machine they're on doesn't respond to finger. The consultants
will be annoyed if the machine doesn't respond to athinfo, etc., so OLC
really can't effectively support anyone who's behind a firewall.
I was assuming that Tom plans to support the user(s) of this machine
himself, and that it will be clearly sign-posted as "not just another
Athena machine".
