Port 53 (tcp/udp - not sure): Named/bind - for hesiod information.
532 - for netnews - if desired
25 - for email (probably outgoing only)
For NFS - if required - probably 111 (sunrpc), 2049
For printing (lpd) - I think it is 515 (tcp)
Then there is at least: zephyr (2102->2104)
olc (2051/2)
globalmessage (2106/udp)
Moira (for list maintence): 775 I think
slw: 3716
lert: 3717
discuss : 2100
Many of these numbers come from /etc/services on an athena machine.
While - you may not need all of them - weird things may start
to happen if ports are blocked...
For instance, lert and global message are during login. slw - for
some software.
There may be some more...
I think the real issue is what to do when a user who normally logs in
on the main campus all of a sudden cannot run a particular
piece of software. (for instance license managers are not in the above list).
When they cannot read netnews - who do they contact? Would olc be savvy
enough to figure out the failure is because of a firewall?
