What were you trying to do?
run the Star Office help system
What's wrong:
it's broken in at least 2 different ways
I'm the guy that usually picks up Star Office bugs- but I don't think I can
do much about these. First off, the problem shows up on Linux machines-
not Sun as in the headers above.
Problem 1: it appears that the fix put into 9.1.14 to fix the Star Office help
system on Linux, removing the latin2/Type1 font, has disappeared as of 9.1.16.
I checked on several machines in N42: n42-186-1, demographic, n42-203-1 all
have this font enabled (and the problem it has caused in the Star Office
help system has returned- most of the help text is invisible). Strangely,
on 2 of 3 new IBM Intellistation Es nearby, dorian and pavane, the font
was not present, but on a third, hhealy, it was. I've been working on this
problem for some time and may have removed it manually from dorian and
pavane, but I don't think so- I don't remember for sure. Can the fix please
be put back in the release?
Problem 2: on Intellistation Es but not on Dells, there is an
additional problem. On machines where the font is not present the help
text is visible but clicking on various items in the alphabetical help
topic listing via Help -> Contents and selecting the Index tab, then
clicking on various topics crashes the X server and the user gets
logged out. This does not happen every single time but if you try
clicking on various topics at random it will almost always
crash after a small number of tries. This does not seem to happen in
Open Office, which has essentially the same help system.
wdc has just informed me that a Star Office 6 patch may be available
and is checking to see how we can get it.
