That would be "compile five times" (Red Hat distributes five different
kernels).  We'd also have to redo this every time Red Hat comes out with
a new kernel we want to take.

We try to modify Red Hat as little as possible.  We don't have a
framework for modifying binaries, only config files.  We could
distribute our own kernel RPMs in preference to the Red Hat ones, but
that would introduce dependency nightmares.

All this to avoid having to recompile a small number of locker binaries,
almost all from the games locker, dating back to Red Hat 4.  We like
backwards compatibility, but there has to be a limit.
