Further investigation reveals that the installer brings up the network
correctly (I can ping the router from the shell). But at somepoint, the
network card gets unhappy and starts spewing the message
<1> eepro100: wait_for_cmd_done timeout
on the alt-F4 console. At that point, I can't ping anything from the
machine or ping the machine.
