This bug is known to Sun and documented in Sun bug
4531901/4669881 (one is a duplicate of the other); the recommended fix
is to disable the penrose and julia modules to xscreensaver, which we've
done for an upcoming 9.1 patch release. I've asked our Sun customer
support engineer about patches fixing this bug; they appear to be
integrated into Solaris 9, but have not been backported to Solaris 8.
