I was unable to reproduce this problem using the systest account (I
tried a regular login in which I ran xterm, a dash-based interface
login, a special login, and a terminal-style login). opus appears to
have the XTerm app-defaults which map BackSpace to \177. I believe
the problem is in your dotfiles.
