I moved the old tarfile to menus-9.0.tar.corrupt, generated a new tar
file on a Solaris machine, verified that it would untar on at least
Solaris and Linux machines, and had the volume released.
The corrupt tarfile appears to untar just fine on a Red Hat 6.32
machine, but not on a Solaris 8 machine. I note that the Solaris 8
tar generates a somewhat smaller file, while the Red Hat 6.2 tar
generates a file of similar size but different contents (according to
"sum")... which also fails to untar on Solaris 8.
Further investigation is warranted, but in the meantime, the tarfile
should not be generated on a Linux machine. Yay compatibility.
