I reproduced the problem, but it appears to be related to terminal
line initialization, regardless of the shell. Perhaps your [t]csh
login was to a different account, whose dotfiles touched the tty,
causing its size to get properly initialized? (I found that running
zwgc, for example, caused the tty size to get set properly).
It looks like the problem may be fixed in Athena 9.0, from a quick
check of a 9.0 alpha machine.
