Regarding your bug report:

Wolfram (maker of Mathematica) has this to say about the general issue:
http://support.wolfram.com/Kernel/Basic/AbortingCalculations.html
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Why am I having problems aborting calculations?
Aborting a calculation in Mathematica can often prove to be
difficult. The basic idea is that, somewhere in the code, the program
flags for user input, checking to see if an abort has been
issued. The more often this "checking" occurs, the longer a
computation will take. We have tried to achieve a good compromise
between the speed of a calculation and the ability to abort in the
middle of a calculation. However, there are many circumstances where
an issued abort can take a very long time, if it even registers at
all.
We are working very hard to identify and correct situations in which
interrupts are slow. If you find an example that has problems
aborting, please let us know.
That being said, if you want to send me some specific expressions you're
having trouble with, we can investigate further.
