Thanks for reporting the problem you had logging in on an SGI.
There's a known problem right now with scans for security vulnerabilites
making the "portmap" process on SGIs die; this results in errors while
logging in like the ones you saw.
We've been in communication with SGI about this, and hope to be
able to deploy a patch for this soon. In the meantime, if you find a
machine in this state, the easiest way to fix it is to reboot the
machine. You can do this by logging in as root and typing "reboot" or
by pushing the soft power button. For an Indy, the power button is the
round, black button in the upper left hand corner of the front of the
machine, and for an O2, it is the round button on the lower left corner
of the front of the machine, next to the power light.
