(bcc'd to bug sipb becasue of its relevance to the recent mail about
pine.)

Bounces that occur on a failed attempt to do a local delivery, or when
outgoing refuses a mail message will always doublebounce, and if
mailer-deamon is aliased to /dev/null as it is on default athena
machines, the doublebounce will get bitbucketed.

                      **************
Note that this means users will never see any bounce messages
generated when outgoing refueses mail because of any of its anti-spam
rules.
                      **************

This occurs, becasue sendmail is sending the bounce with a null
envelope from. I'll be sending pathces in for this shortly.

This problem affects the following platforms:

Athena 8.3 SGI and sun (and presumably linux and NetBSD, but I didn't check)
Athena 8.2 NetBSD and linux (RH 5.2)

This problem does not affect:

Athena 8.2 suns (and presumably SGIs) and earlier
Linux Athena RH 4.2 (beacsue it does direct delivery which means it
sends bounce mail to MIT.EDU which still points at the old
mailers which accepts mail regardless of the envelope from.
