On an 8.3 dialup I ran:

% attach -o rsize=16384,wsize=16384,tcp bitbucket
attach: JASON.MIT.EDU:/u1/bitbucket attached to /mit/bitbucket for filesystem bitbucket
% mount|grep bitbucket
/mit/bitbucket on JASON.MIT.EDU:/u1/bitbucket rsize=1024/wsize=1024/soft/read/write/nosuid/remote on Mon Sep 27 09:19:23 1999

There are two problems.

1. attach should try TCP with a large transfer size before going to UDP
with a small transfer size. This should improve performance while still
being friendly to the backbone and gateways. Solaris, IRIX, and the
latest versions of Linux support TCP.

2. If I ask for mount options and attach can't use them because the
filesystem is already attached with different options, it should warn
me. For example,
warning: bitbucket mount options ignored, filesystem is already mounted
