I believe I found the problem. We set the ownership and permissions
of audio device files so that only the xlogin'ed user can access them,
but neglect to do so for /dev/hdsp/hdsp0events, which is a new device
in IRIX 6.5. I will submit a patch so that this gets fixed in an
upcoming patch release.
