What were you trying to do?
I don't know what to really put here... I was hoping to run a reliable
workstation/server with remote access....
What's wrong:
I have found it in a state twice this weekend, where it was mostly
non-functional. It will let you log in, but can't attach your home
directory, can't find your shell, etc.
The messages file is filled with
Jun 27 14:25:33 lees2.mit.edu hm[288]: No servers or no hesiod
Jun 27 14:31:35 lees2.mit.edu last message repeated 13 times
If I look in /srvd or /os, there is nothing there. If I link /srvd
and /os to their usual 8.3 locations, things still aren't right and
hesiod refuses connections when I type "reactivate" as root.
There is nothing notable in the messages file before it starts giving the
above errors, and this isn't associated with any particular user logging
out.
Rebooting fixes the problem, but it has happened 2x in the last day.
What should have happened:
I would have hoped to not see these problems...
Note that all of this involves telnet, not logging into the monitor.
Any ideas? This doesn't happen to the 8.3 machines I run for CRL (as far
as I know...)
Thanks.
Karen
