What were you trying to do?
Logged in locally.
startx # Brings up KDE
kinit
aklog
attach math
cd /mit/math/bin
./math # This works, and Plot[] pulls up extra window
./mathematica # This birngs up error msg window,
# Error Type: 199. Then quits
What's wrong:
Mathematica works in commadn line mode, with working X-window pop-ups for graphical plotting. The mathematica front end fails to load.
What should have happened:
Mathematica front end should have worked, or at least given a more meaningful error message.

The linux-help@mit.edu mailing list has not been able to solve this problem, so I am submitting it here.
Could I be missing a library/package/font/file or something mathematica needs?
