I tried this but couldn't reproduce the problem.
What happens if you:
1) change your Editor to just "emacs"
2) remove the "-nw" from .emacs.tty
3) add a "-q" to .emacs.tty to make it not use your .emacs
?
Has it always done this, or is it a recent thing?
