I see regular delays between the time I enter the zwrite command and the
time I can safely start typing, but they are predictable delays based on
how much else I have running - i.e. you can hear my puny Sparc4 swap out.
:)

Go from Netscape to the xterm window and type zwrite, it'll be a while; 
stay in the same xterm window and do it again, instantaneous. 

I don't consider this a bug either. Just noting.
