I suppose I should consider it refreshing to be criticized for telling you
what progress has been made on your trouble report.

Perhaps you have never considered the normal steps that are taken in dealing
with a problem report. The first step is simply to attempt to reproduce the
problem.

The next step is to investigate the severity of the problem. If there is a
simple workaround available, this should be verified and included in the
growing "log" of the problem.

At this point, I have confirmed that there is a problem, and that there is a
simple way to handle the problem. Incidentally, I did fail to report that
this problem does NOT occur on sparc4 or sparc5 systems, where xrefresh
removes the monitor printing without any problem.

At this point, as a courtesy to you, I provided you with an "in-progress"
report on what I had found out about the problem you reported. If you would
rather not know what action has been taken in regard to problems you report,
I'm sure that can be arranged.

Problems with Solaris should be reported via sendbug. Problems with any
part of Athena should be reported via sendbug.

We will try to reproduce the problem, assess the severity, and decide what
farther actions are needed.

And sometimes, we'll even try to tell you about it.

:)Yes, I know logging out clears the screen. Logging out kills the
:)X server. It's my opinion that there should be a way to refresh
:)the screen that does not involve killing the X server.
:)
:)I did not really expect Athena to be able to fix this problem.
:)However, I would appreciate it if you pass it upstream to Sun,
:)so that they are notified about the issue, and so that they can
:)declare something about whether or not they will fix it.
:)
:)If "bugs" is the wrong place for email about bugs in Solaris,
:)I'd appreciate knowing what the proper address is. (I had
:)assumed, perhaps erroneously, that you would forward this bug
:)report to Sun once you determined that it was outside of Athena's
:)realm of responsibility.)
:)
:)Thank you,
