One problem is that the script /mit/frame_v5.5/bin/maker refers to
/mit/frame_v5.5/distrib/$ATHENA_SYS, so a link is necessary there.
There may be other references through $ATHENA_SYS paths as well.
ATHENA_SYS_COMPAT only works with lockers which strictly conform to
the locker model and don't play games like that.
