What were you trying to do?
Read files in AFS on athyra, an O2 running Athena 8.1.15.
What's wrong:
The user is losing in a way which suggests AFS cache
corruption. He has valid tickets and tokens, but is getting
"permission denied" errors reading certain files.
(null) athyra ~% fs getcache
AFS using 78526 of the cache's available 90000 1K byte blocks.
(null) athyra ~% df -k /usr/vice/cache
Filesystem Type kbytes use avail %use Mounted on
/dev/dsk/dks0d1s6 efs 100026 79658 20368 80 /usr/vice/cache
I got the user to do the following:
athyra~% file .zwgc.desc.vt
.zwgc.desc.vt: Cannot read .zwgc.desc.vt: Permission denied
athyra~% cat .zwgc.desc.vt
Input error: Permission denied (.zwgc.desc.vt)
athyra~% fs whereis .zwgc.desc.vt
File .zwgc.desc.vt is on host HADES.MIT.EDU
athyra~% fs la ~/
Access list for /afs/athena.mit.edu/user/r/s/rshah/ is
Normal rights:
system:expunge ld
system:anyuser l
rshah rlidwka
shabby rl
The user was reporting that this (spurious "permission denied" errors)
was happening with other files in his homedirectory as well. He was
able to access thes files normally on other machines at the same time.
However, an invocation of 'fs flushvol /afs/athena/user/r/s/rshah'
caused all files except the aforementioned .zwgc.desc.vt to become
normally accessible again.
What should have happened:
AFS should work normally.
Please describe any relevant documentation references:
Don't I wish. I'm not going to touch anything more
immediately. If you want any more information before I reboot the
machine and blow away the cache, please let me know.
