The way Athena updates preserve mkserv customizations is by rerunning
the mkserv script after an update. Since xterm.add inserts tftp as
switched, there's nothing surprising going on here. The update script
does not special-case machines with particular services enabled and
leave certain configuration files alone.
On the other hand, I'm not sure what xterm.add thinks it's
accomplishing by inserting a switched inetd.conf entry, since switched
services can't be relied on. You might consider sending mail to
mkserv@mit.edu arguing that it should be changed to unswitched.>
