What's wrong:

As far as I can tell, the -inverse flag to xwud means absolutely
nothing.

I am trying to do "xwd | xwud -inverse" to get a reverse image of a
window. It is not working. Whether I specify the -inverse flag or
not, the window is undumped in the same color scheme as the original
window.

I have tried this with "*reverseVideo:on" set in my X resources, after
adding "xwd*reverseVideo:off," and after completely clearing my
resource database.

I have looked at the source code in an attempt to figure out why it
doesn't work, and I can't figure it out. The program *should* reverse
the background and foreground pixel colors when it is given the
-inverse flag, and I can't figure out why it is not (perhaps I am just
braindead, or perhaps there's something actually wrong).

What should have happened:

The -inverse flag should work.
