Three sgi systems in 4-035 displayed this problem. They are all
4600-XZ systems, recently upgraded to 128M memory.

The systems had about a centimeter wide blue line at the bottom of the
monitor. Pressing the normal boot button did NOT cause anything to
   happen.

Rebooting with the small "hard boot" button worked. No evident problem
   coming up.

This sounds nearly identical to the behaviour I noticed on wellfleet
using xscreensaver on 8.1. Lou eventually found that one of the
memory SIMMS wasn't seated properly. Reseating it appears to have
fixed the problem.
