What were you trying to do?
login as root, but this is really a long story, so let me cut
to the chase.
What went wrong?
The DECstation install fails to create /etc/passwd.local.
Normally, this isn't aproblem, because it is corrected by the public
workstation cleanup during the inital boot process. However, if the
workstation doesn't have hesinfo, no packs are attached and that part
of the publicworkstation cleanup doesn't work.
What should have happened?
There should have been a passwd.local file on my newly
installed system.
Yo, got any documentation, or other info?
Yes, I'm aware that this fits ibn the "rather anal" category.
Teh only reason I noticed was that mkserv appended an entry to my
non-existant passwd.local file (thus creating it) and when I rebooted,
/etc/passwd was blown away with this one entry passwd.local file. I
plan to fix mkserv RSN. If someone decides that this is not worth
dealing with, that probably isn't too unreasonable.
